Jake Burroughs, B.A.
Mr. Jake Burroughs began his martial arts training at age fourteen with American Kenpo Karate. In 1998, he began studying Chinese styles and few years later became a dedicated student of both Hu Xilin (Yang Taiji and Praying Mantis) and Tim Cartmell (Shanxi Xingyi and Sun Taiji). He combines skills into Mixed Martial Arts practice and seminars he conducts. Mr. Burroughs received a B.A. degree in Asian Studies from the University of New Mexico. He now lives in Seattle, WA.
Stanley E. Henning, M.A.
Stanley Henning has served in Asia in both military and civilian capacities over the past 40 years. He studied Yang Taijiquan, Shanxi Xingyiquan, and several weapon routines in Taiwan. He has a B.A. degree in history from The Virginia Military Institute, and a M.A. degree in overseas operations from the University of Hawai’i.
Yong Jae Ko, Ph.D.
Dr. Ko is an assistant professor of the sport management program at University of Florida. He has been involved in numerous research projects that relate to consumer behavior and event marketing in the context of sport and martial arts. He routinely serves on various committees and advisory boards in national and international sport organizations. He has over 15 years of teaching and coaching experiences in taekwondo and holds a 5th-dan black belt degree.
Joan Neide, Ph.D.
Dr. Joan Neide is a professor at California State University at Sacramento. Her faculty duties in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science include physical education pedagogy and history and philosophy of Asian martial arts. She has been practicing and teaching Okinawan Karate, Uechi-Ryu, for 39 years. She is a 7th-degree black belt and recognized by the All Okinawan Karate Association as an instructor and master level (Kyoshi).
Quint Oga-Baldwin, M.S. Ed.
Quint Oga-Baldwin is a university teacher, researcher, and martial artist living in Japan. He is currently a student of Shorin-ryu Karate and Ryukyu Kobudo under Katsumi Murakami, as well as studying Goju-ryu Karate under Nobuhisa Kanari. He holds a Masters of Science in Education from Temple University. He is currently teaching at Kyushu Sangyo University.
Kevin Secours, B.A.
Kevin Secours devoted over 25 years in the fighting arts. He has earned advanced degrees in Akai-ryu Jujutsu, Five Animal Shaolin Boxing, and Modern Kempo Jujitsu. In more recent years, Mr. Scours has focued on Russian Systema under Mikhail Ryabko and Vladimir Vasiliev, becoming as a senior certified instructor. Most recently he was awarded a 6th-degree black belt in Shinbukan Karate under Sali Azem. Mr. Secours has authored two books on self-defense and been featured in numerous international articles and DVD’s.
Jin Bang Yang, Ph.D.
Dr. Yang is a professor in Yong In University’s Taekwondo Competition Program in S. Korea. He received his Ph.D. from University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Physical Education) in 1996. His seminal work on taekwondo history is regarded as the highest impact scholarly work in this subject. Dr. Yang has been working for Kukkiwon and Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) as a director and executive member. In 1990s, Dr. Yang introduced Taekwondo to many Chinese when he was a faculty member of Beijing University. Today, he is known as “the Father of Taekwondo in China.”
